'This is war,' Rumsfeld told Bush - The Washington Times: Nation/Politics
Rummy's been around for a long, long time, manipulating, positioning, networking...Donald Rumsfeld - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and then he got the opportunity, and used it.
It is just appalling that someone could use a devastating situation to their advantage'This is war,' Rumsfeld told Bush - The Washington Times: Nation/Politics and that's what happened... and continues to happen.
It was actually amusing to see him squirm and try to finagle his way out of the point-blank questions asked of him during his visit to the troops in Iraq. Pathetic, but mildly amusing.
The propaganda machine really had to work overtime to try to put a good spin on the fact that he couldn't answer the questions [regardless of who thought up the question] directly. The best they came up with was that one question was actually for a reporter. As if that negates the question or the gravity of the answer [or in this case, non-answer]?!?
Pathetic because there are those who will actually defend him and spout more party-line drivel [aka excuses].
