Signs of Desperation in White House - Preparing Extralegal Activities

It sounds like extreme fear and desperation at the White House, and the administration which is preparing to find ways to 'end-run' around Congress and that oh-so-pesky oversight:
White House press secretary Tony Snow says Bush may take the same bypass around Capitol Hill. "He told all of us, 'Put on your track shoes. We're going to run to the finish,'" Snow said. "He's going to be aggressive on a lot of fronts. He's been calling all his Cabinet secretaries and telling them, 'You tell me administratively everything you can do between now and the end of the presidency. I want to see your to-do list and how you expect to do it.' We're going to try to be as ambitious and bold as we can possibly be."

In fact, when it comes to deploying its Executive power, which is dear to Bush's understanding of the presidency, the President's team has been planning for what one strategist describes as "a cataclysmic fight to the death" over the balance between Congress and the White House if confronted with congressional subpoenas it deems inappropriate. The strategist says the Bush team is "going to assert that power, and they're going to fight it all the way to the Supreme Court on every issue, every time, no compromise, no discussion, no negotiation."
Ok, the phrase "congressional subpoenas it deems inappropriate" smacks of terror of insiders having to testify before Congressional committees under oath.

To reiterate, this author is a member of NO party, trusts NO party, and does not trust the government, in general. With that said, it will be slightly delicious indeed to see the rats squirm under tough questioning (under oath!) in those hearings IF the Democratic party regains majority in one or both houses.

The slide towards total tyranny is almost to that point where there may be no return. No, I'm not a pessimist in general, but the events of the last decade and a half have sorely tested the mettle of the American spirit of fierce independence (from GOVERNMENT) and Big Brother has gained so much traction, so much power that it will be exceedingly hard to put that genie back into the bottle.

Americans MUST resist this fascist president and his ilk with every fibre of their being! Voting is the legal (and bloodless) revolution intended by the founders. What troubles me is that no one is talking about Term Limits. IMHO, this would greatly swing our dysfunctional governmental system back towards it's intended state of being: a government TRULY of and by the people. No one was intended to be career politicians, and just my opinion here, but that seems to be a major factor in the corruptability of any public servant.

If term limits are enacted, election reform too, then we can all look forward (sarcasm here) to serving a few years in the largest bureaucracy in the world. And most of us will feel a huge sense of relief when our time is completed.

That's the way it should be.
